PROPOSED LIDL ON MATALAN SITE
On 10 January 2020, Lidl applied to extend and redevelop the Matalan site at the junction of Marshal’s Road and the High Street (link to planning application here – and a copy of the letter to local residents with elevations and plans here). It will remain low-rise despite being slated for a 10-storey development in the local plan (see pages 192 & 193 of the Sutton adopted local plan), but is likely to generate more traffic than Matalan. You can respond to the consultation by completing a comments firm here by 31 January 2020.
Deadline for response is 31 January 2020.

Issues immediately obvious are:
increased and heavy trafffic (cars and lorries) via the access on Lewis Road
light pollution on Lewis Road
what planning gain will there be (usually the local planning authority makes a supermarket pay for a community benefit as a condition of a supermarket use)
opening hours may impact on local residents
